* What is the World Series?
The World Series is an annual Major League Baseball Championship in which the team with the best record from the American League plays the top team from the National League in a seven game series. The first team to win four out of seven games wins the World Series.
* Are there other names for the World Series?
Yes. The World Series is often called the “Fall Classic,” and it was at different times known as the National Championship, the World Championship, and the Championship of the United States.
*When did the World Series begin and who competed in it?
The first official Series was played in 1903, between Boston and Pittsburgh. It required the winning team to score the best out of nine games rather than seven. The Americans beat the Pittsburgh Pirates five games to three, ending the Series after the eighth game.
