One of the phenomena these days is online shopping. The improvement in the internet and telecommunication contribute to spreading the online shopping. Online shopping can help a lot of people and companies who do not have stores to show their products. Also, it helps the company to show their products in a fancy way. Most big companies these days have a lot of offers that you can find in the internet and you cannot find in the store. Now, there are many arguments about whether online shopping is bad or good. Thus, online shopping has popularity in the entire world.
In my opinion, the online shopping is great things for many reasons. First, we can buy products easily. Second, we can get great deals from the websites. Third, we can guarantee our security.
First, we can buy products in easy way. This point makes most people like the online shopping. According to George Ball’s article (2008), “Online shopping has become a convenient alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar store. It has provided a method of easily finding what you're looking for” (parp. 1). In addition, online shopping will help people who have special satiation such as handicap and obesity people. They always complain that cannot find clothes fit to them. Because of the progress in the internet and the websites of the big companies these people can find what they want easily. As a result, online shopping is providing easy way to find the products.
Moreover, we can get the best price from our homes. Many of the websites make this move to support their websites and have more consumers. This move make people tend to buy online more. In addition, online shopping is really timesaver and permissible to have a best price from any stores or websites shopping. They imitate the internet as hyper mall; you can find any stuff or product you need. For example, there are a lot of stores buying groceries and clothing (Rebertson, 2006) .Also, they make their websites fabulous and well-organized to drive the consumer buy more. Thus, they can offer all the products they have and you can find it great deals in press the bottom.
Finally, we can guarantee our security. That point is really weak but we can make it strong if we follow the websites instructions. Ball (2008, para. 2) writes, “In fact online shopping is quite safe, as long as you follow precautions. According to the director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, the majority of identity theft occurred off-line with criminals intercepting mail or skimming data from carelessly discarded credit card receipts.” Now, there are many companies provide security consultant to the websites shopping. In addition, these security consultants provide the guarantee for your account and your personal information. As a result, protecting our account and shopping is one of the amazing things in the online shopping.
Opponents of we can guarantee our security in these online shopping claims that there are a lot of consumers lost their money because they buy products online or went to internet auction. In fact, consumers usually look for the less price and who they get merchandise in easy way without buying the shipping for example. All these companies and websites usually fake they just try to grab the dump people or who do not have experiences to deal with computer. Epinions.com (2008, para. 2) says, “Yes,your credit card information can be stolen. Yes, it’s possible for this to escalate into a case of indentify theft. But, online shopping is the best invention since... well, since shopping, and you just can’t pass it up. I’m here to tell you that yes, you can shop the internet safely, if you use your head”.
In conclusion, providing easy way to find the products, they can offer all the products they have and you can find it great deals, and providing security to our account and shopping are three ways that make the online shopping is perfect and popular. Online shopping it will be improve more and more and will compete the tradition store. I hope the telecommunication and technology improve more and we can try the product before

Beautiful Salmon

One of the amazing and sad aspects of a salmon’s life is that it dies in the same river that it was born in. Unfortunately, these beautiful salmon are going to extinction because of many problems. First, salmon farming is one of the issues that cause extinction for the salmon. CAAR (n.d.a, para.1) says “Salmon farming is the practice of rearing hatchery-origin salmon from smelt to adult size in a net-cage, pond or contained system. As currently practiced on a commercial scale, salmon farming in most regions involves the use of large floating open net-cage pens, usually located in sheltered bays along the coast.” Furthermore, they started to commercially farm it in 1970. Many people sell salmon, so some companies tend to make fish farms. Because of the benefits from selling salmon, many companies tend to increase the number of salmon farms. Now, wild salmon has become one of the fish endangered to extinction for many reasons, such as trading in big quantities. In addition, climate change and global warming have one of the greatest effects on the ecosystem and on all kinds of creatures, especially salmon (World Wild Life, n.d.). The National Wildlife Federation (2008, para.7) writes, “global warming will harm salmon and steelhead at each stage of their life cycle, exacerbating other conditions that have led to the species’ threatened or endangered status.” Global warming is a big issue that will affect the life of salmon and other species. As a result, we have two reasons that cause extinction for the salmon.

Moreover, many wild salmon are threatened with extinction because of pollution and the causes of it. In addition, the pollution caused by human activities is another reason which leads to extinction of the salmon. Shavelson (2004, para.1) writes, “governor Murkowski and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) have proposed new rules to increase pollution in Alaska's wild salmon streams. Currently, state law rightly prohibits ‘mixing zones’ in salmon spawning areas. The Governor's proposal will rollback these safeguards, and allows mining, sewage, oil and gas and other pollution to be dumped into our fish streams.” Also, many threats and diseases are because of using the salmon farms. Truly, several of the scientists are against the salmon farms. CAAR (n.d.b, para. 3) writes, “Salmon farming is one of the most harmful aquaculture production systems. The industry uses open net-cages placed directly in the ocean, where farm waste, chemicals, disease and parasites are released directly into the surrounding waters, harming other marine life. Escapes of thousands of farmed fish are common in the industry, as are the death of natural predators like sea lions and seals who are attracted to the pens of fish.” Many threats and diseases are because of using the salmon farms.

People should try to save salmon from extinction by following these three ways: traders should avoid selling salmon in big quantities, governments should support the scientists in their experiences in genetic engineering, and people have to raise the number of salmon farms in the entire world.

Salmon are one kind of fish that has a variety of colors and environments. The two famous kinds of salmon are pink and silver salmon. They spend most of their lives in the ocean and sea, but once they want to spawn, they go to the same river or stream where they were born. Dictionary.com (2006, para. 1) calls salmon, “a marine and freshwater food fish, Salmo salar, of the family Salmonidae, having pink flesh, inhabiting waters off the North Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America near the mouths of large rivers, which it enters to spawn.” Moreover, the salmon has a particular life cycle (FishEx, n.d.). It is different than any fish in the world. They started as eggs in the bottom of stream in gravel nests. The eggs usually get the spherical shape and pink or red color. The eggs take around 3 months to spawn. In addition, the salmon gets different stages; these are egg, alevin, fry, parr, smolt, and adult. The alevin period is starting after they break the eggs. They hide in the gravel nests from the enemies and they feed on food in the gravel such as nutrient-rich yolk sac. After that, the fry stage is in turn. In this period they try to feed themselves, start swimming in the stream and take the shape of the fish. In fry stage, there are a lot of threats that make their life endangered and another organism such as insect, birds, and fish. When the salmon spawn they stay for a few years in the river, then they start the voyage to the ocean immediately. After they are born, they are called alevin and move on to juvenile. After a while, the salmon grows up and became adult. Before that, the salmon started the trip to the ocean after some changes in their bodies in order to adapt with the ocean and salt water. Parr is the next stage, in which the salmon grow and feed from the stream. There are some changes in their bodies, especially in their length --it will be six inches long. They get special vertical marking in this stage. The parr stage takes from 1 to 3 years after the parr shift to the next stage. The smolt stage is the time that fish have to change their skin from vertical marking to the silver color. This silver skin will help them to adapt with the saltwater. Moreover, the smolt start staying in groups and move in large groups to the ocean. The last stage is an adult stage; in this period the salmon spend from 1 to 4 years in the ocean. There are some exceptions like Jacks or Jennies salmon, which live in Alaska and return to the river before they develop and become mature. The salmon journey is more than 2000 miles, and they return to the river or stream. The trip from the river to the ocean and reverse makes the salmon’s life endangered from many enemies, such as bears, wolf, seals, orca whales and fisherman.

The salmon have many benefits to the human. Salmon have been considered one of the important foods for humans from the beginning of prehistoric times (World wild life, n.d.). There were some paintings in France and North America that prove that. Also, Native Americans in the United States were fishing salmon and using it in different ways, such as eating and trading. Also, salmon occur in some places like the west coast of the United States in California. Salmon have proven to have many medical benefits to the human such as salmon oil. Lad (2007, para. 4) writes, “Salmon oil is used for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Researchers believe that it is very useful as a measure of protection against heart attack.” Thus, this brief about the salmon recycle life and the benefits of used salmon oil.

First of all, opponents of eliminating selling salmon in big quantities claim that fish farms produce a huge number of salmon and they can make more fish farms to feed the market if there is a decrease. Truly, increasing the number of the fish farms over limits are causing imbalance in the ecosystem and increasing new kinds of diseases. Traders have to eliminate selling salmon in big quantities to protect salmon from becoming endangered. Traders decline this view because they earn millions of dollars from selling salmon. There are really serious collapses in the ground fish fisheries because of the intensive commercial fishing in the entire, world especially in New England. The collapse is estimated in the world as by 25%. There is a simple attempt to restrict the commercial fishing for one year in New England by the Judge Gladys Kessler. Most fishermen and people who work in this field care about themselves and try to have all the benefits from aggressive fishing, so that every fisherman blames another (Stavins, 2002). Governments have to regulate selling salmon in huge amounts. There are many ways to solve this problem. Governments have to make bound limits for each industry in every year. Also, governments must increase taxes for selling the rare fish. Moreover, many people in the world like to eat salmon, which makes the demand high. In addition, governments have to make laws that prevent the random selling of salmon in the entire world.

Moreover, governments must enforce fishermen’s legal selling. Also, they should make penalties for illegal selling. Prohibiting illegal selling is an example of a way that would help to save salmon from extinction.Moreover, opponents of supporting the scientists in their experiences in genetic engineering claim that will produce a new generation which may have a lot of illnesses. Also, this experience will lead to extinction of salmon. However, governments spend a lot of money and time looking for solutions to clean up the sea’s life. This solution is temporary and not efficient. Governments should spend this money in the proper places, in the genetic engineering world. According to Rebecca Clarren’s article (2003), “Tinkering with the DNA of salmon is a relatively simple task in today’s genetics labs. In order to create fast-growing salmon, geneticists insert an additional gene, taken from a different species, such as an ocean pout, into a newly fertilized egg. If all goes smoothly, the foreign gene integrates into a long strand of native DNA, and a healthy fish — containing the combined genes — grows up. Geneticists then breed these modified fish for several generations, until the offspring consistently carry the additional gene” (para. 6).

The genetic engineering is a revolution these days, so we should use it to solve our problems completely. By using this invention, we will have more fish. In addition, we can control the DNA and change it to have new living beings. Genetic engineering can support the fish farm and produce a new generation of salmon that can solve the problem of some missing salmon. More experiences can ensure the safety of salmon from any disease or the effect of humans. Thus, controlling the DNA and changing it will help to protect salmon from extinction.

Finally, opponents of raising the number of salmon farms in the entire world claim that will affect small species that feed on the salmon and drive wild salmon to extinction. In fact, the third way to save salmon from being endangered is to provide appropriate habitat. If fishermen and specialists in the sea world choose the right environment for salmon, that will help to make proliferation for salmon. For example, many countries have a serious plan to prevent anyone from fishing to protect the salmon and wildlife. There is wonderful innovation to protect the salmon, which is the salmon farm. The farming of salmon assists to increase the number of salmon quickly. Many countries are supporting this idea these days. Freeman (n.d., para. 5) says, “The need to solve planetary overfishing of wild fish stocks represents the inherent requirement for aqua farming. Our ability to feed ourselves remains an issue of paramount importance. In simple terms we must find a way to make more from what we have. One way to do that is to increase the resource performance and enhance supplies. Farming helps to bridge that gap. Fish Farming is a versatile and flexible industry encompassing a wide range of methods designed to meet various needs and to fulfill different purposes. Hatchery production of young fish to restock lakes, streams and oceans is a form of aquaculture that has provided immense benefits by enhancing wild fish populations. Subsistence aqua farming of fish and aquatic plants has provided nourishment in many impoverished regions, while commercial level fish farming has augmented wild supplies and reduced fishing pressures.” We can protect wild salmon from extinction by releasing some of the salmon farms annually into the wildlife to make balance in the ecosystem. In this way we make sure there is not extinction for wild salmon. In addition, government must become strict and have certain plans about cleaning up rivers and oceans. Educating people and changing some of their bad habits and charging factories for their pollution are some solutions to get a healthy environment. Farming salmon is one example that helps to provide a proper habitat.

In conclusion, prohibitive illegal selling, supporting the scientists in their experiences in genetic engineering, and increasing the amount of the proper habitats are three ways that would protect salmon from extinction. People should think about preventive environment more than thinking about spending their money in destroying the environment. Also, they should take the extinction of salmon seriously, because many poor countries’ economies depend on fishing. People often complain about the uncontrolled fishing. In addition, the whole world must spend more money to find more inventions to manage global warming, pollution, and random fishing to keep fish from extinction. It is difficult to clean up the rivers and oceans, so government should support this kind of inventions. We ought to treat the issue seriously; otherwise, we might lose the delicious taste of salmon.

Best Place to Travel

I had planned before I came to the United States to visit all the tourism cities. First, I have traveled to many cities in the United States. California State was the first place that I visited in February, 2008. I was very excited about what I saw in this state. There are many luxurious and ancient buildings. Also, there are more than twelve beaches, all of which are fancy. The weather usually is warm all year long. Because of many people in this state from different countries, most of the people in this state are friendly and like international visitors. Shopping is one of the advantageous things in this state. Many famous names of fashion headquarters are in this state and many famous actors or singers live there too. In addition, cheap clothes are available in this state. Many outlet stores have many products in unbelievable prices. Many beautiful parks and forests are in different places in California. I visited San Bernardino, San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach San Francisco, and Santa Barbara. I went to Hollywood and Disney Land; it was marvelous. There are many majestic restaurants and they serve different kinds of food from all over the world. You can find a lot of coffee shops that you cannot find in other states. There is a beautiful Arabic town in Anaheim, where you can find many restaurants and stores such as those in our countries. Many of the best universities are in the United States. Also, I visited Washington DC; there are a lot of luxurious buildings there, but I observed that buildings are not too high as they are in Chicago. Chicago was one of the nice places I recommend to visit. In addition, I will complete my journey these days, and I will visit New York. I think New York is one of the famous cities that you will imagine when we talk about the United States. In conclusion, in our culture we have an adage that says, there are 6 benefits from travelling: easing sadness, earning a living, getting knowledge, learning manners, learning cultures, and having good company.

Good and Bad Memories

One of the amazing things about the human, that he can remind most the events or moments in their life. The memories can came in different forms. Some of these moments or events are good and the human wish if it is happening again. Otherwise, some events people are hate thinking about it. The worst memories are which effect at the persons and make their life disaster. Nightmare is another way that reminds people about bad memories. In my life, all my memories usually related to something. First, some of my memories related to place. For example, I have bad memories about the United States before I came to here. Also, my grandmother still did not know until this moment I am here in the United States. Because my father died here, all my family was against to complete my study in the United States. My grandmother have a bad feeling if I study here I will died. Second, some memories related to song. I have a nice story was happen to me that related to song. When I was in California I met a nice American girl and she listen to Arabic song. She loved the rhythm of the song and told me to translate the words of the song. I stayed for six hours using my dictionary trying to translate every word in the song. The song was very romantic and talked about leaving the friends to another town. Before I leaved California, she sent the song to me by e-mail. I was shocked how she could find it and I remember her each time I listen to this music. In conclusion, I hope for any persons to have more good memories than bad memories.

Delicious Arabic Food

To tell the truth, I like several varieties of food. My first food choice often is “Falafel”. Today, I am going to tell you about this food. It's so delicious. I like it because it is healthy and easy to make and cook especially here in the United States. Also, you can eat it at any time, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is made of beans, which is a famous vegetable in the United States, but, it is not good for people who have allergy to beans. In order to make it, first you have to put the beans in water and leave it for twenty four hours. Then, you should take out the beans and grind them with a special tool until it becomes like dough. After that, you would add the salt, black pepper, coriander and parsley together. Then, in the small kitchen piece, you put this dough into vegetable oil in a cocker. Now, “Falafel” is ready to be eaten with some tomatoes and onion to decorate the plate. This kind of food is popular in Syria and Jordan. Now, it has become famous in Saudi Arabia more and more. In addition, many big and small restaurants serve Falafel and people like it a lot.

Do Not Stay Alone

In life, people encounter many events. Some of these events make them happy; otherwise, some events make them sad. People have different reactions to these events. Our religion taught us how to deal with any disasters and decrease the influence of these disasters. Also, how people work as group and how they help each others. In my society, people usually close to each others. Also, they feel about their friends, families, and neighbors and chare with them their problems. Really, we cannot leave someone stay alone except if we know why he do that. This reason makes suicide rare in our society not like other cultures. Also, people become friendlier and try to produce the assistance all the time. I think I have different reactions with my issues. If I have some troubles with my mother for instance than I just go to my bedroom and sleep for three or four hours. Moreover, if the issue in my work then I stay with my friends and discuss with them the situations. Sometimes, I have been in bad mood, so I like to ride my car to the desert and listen to classic music to find solution for what I think about. In fact, I am a person like to be between other people. Since, I came to the United States everything is change. I usually stay alone for long time because we have a lot of assignments. In addition, I came here to improve my ability in English and develop my basic skills. Now, I usually write my secret diary when I remember my family and miss them. This is in a brief my experiences and my opinions about be alone.

Yes We Can

“We can make change”, that was slogan of Obama campaign. I like this slogan because it means that people can make their destiny. The election is something strange in our country. I enjoyed watching elections in 2000 and 2004, but in 2008 I was in the event. I wanted to see how the Americans can choose their president. One of the interesting things about the election is that some Americans ignored me when I asked them about who they would choose and gave diplomatic answers. I had to follow-up each step for Obama from the beginning. I had huge confidence that Obama will be the president from the beginning. He has all the characteristics of a successful leader. I like all his speeches. He has a special way to convince people. The amazing thing about this election was Obama, the first American African candidate for the United States president, that he had all huge support from people and got a lot of money. I was wondering whether he would lose after spending all this money. I like his choice for the running mate. I think Biden was a great choice from Obama. The attack advertising was great idea to get more voters. Obama faced a lot of difficulties, but he faced bravery. The last day in the election before the polling hours were scary. I was watching the news and tried to find any information that showed who won. November 4, 2008 was the day of the change for the United States.

My Dream

Each person has one or more dreams that he try in many ways to meet. Some of them are easy to get and some of them are hard. When I was a child, I had a big dream that I wanted to be a surgery. My mother was proud of me because of my dream. I wanted to protect any children from losing their father. I was suffering a lot from losing my father because my father dead when I was a child. When I played with the other children I liked to portray a surgery. It was a great feeling. However, the fate was stop in my way. Since, I graduated from the high school. I applied to the medicine university in my city. The challenge was the university just accepted 200 students each year and had difficult test to join this university. I tried to pass the test, but I failed. I was sad because I lost two things the opportunity to help the people from losing someone they love and making my mother keep proud about me.
Next, I was adult, so I was looking for realistic dream. The second dream was a successful businessman. I chose the prince Alwaleed Bin Talal as role model. Also, I put his picture in every place in my room. I started my first step to make the dream in 1998. I opened a small store to sell cellular phones and Accessories of the cellular phones. The second big jump was investing my money in new business in Saudi Arabia that was advertising. I started with four employees and rented digital printing machine. Now, I owner a small company, which called Dimensions advertising, that have 28 employees and two branches. I had a big fear before I came to the United States, because there was no one can manage the company after I left. My uncle learned the work very fast and he control every thing. My last dream is to find beautiful girls that respect me and the marriage life. I hope from God to give me long time to accomplish my entire dream.

Fluency Exercise # 4

Learning by Technology
Internet is the famous way that has a huge influence on learning technology. In the internet, millions of web sites are providing many ways that help you to learn English. It is really amazing that you get lessons about any subject for free. The advantages you can get from learning by using technology are numerous. First, an intelligent class is helping the teachers to support his idea and make teaching easier. For example, some teachers use internet to find video aids for a specific subject. Also, teachers are facing some problems to explain some information to the students, so watching movies make the vision clear for the students. I believe the effect of eyes more than listening. Second, free electronic dictionaries one of the ways that make me save money. I do not need to carry the soft dictionaries or portable dictionary. Third, some websites provide some section that helps to improve your skills such as reading, writing, listening, and grammar. I hope the technology improves more to make learning English easier.

Fishing Farms

In “Fish farms drive wild salmon populations toward extinction” the author states the reason for the decrease in the wild salmon population and driving them to extinction because of the spread of sea lice in fish farms. The author says that sea lice may terminate the salmon life during four years or at least in a couple of generations. Moreover, the author points out those sea lice infect the youngest salmon in the fish farm so that it causes death for these juvenile salmon. In addition, the author mentions that the fears of net pen aquacultures are increased and how they affect other species. The author explains how the sea lice are transferring into the salmon’s skin in the ocean. Also, the author asserts that the youngest salmon are affected by the wild salmon, which have sea lice that come from the ocean to the fish farms. Furthermore, the author states that the number of salmon increased and sea lice decreased, if the fish farms on the migration path are closed for that time. The author explains how to solve the sea lice infestation in two ways: move to new farms far away from the river and close the fish farm completely from other wild salmon.

It is apparent that the author’s opinion is wrong in this article. The author is relating all salmon problems to the fish farms. Fish farms are one of the best solutions that we have these days. All the problems that the author mentions can be handled in different ways. For example, any disease can be cured by scientists, or they can isolate the salmon who have sea lice. The author should focus on the big problem such as global warming and how the fish farm will help in it. Using fish farms would help to reduce the effect of global warming, sickness, and enemies.

The primary reason that people should tend to use the fish farm is the effect of the global warming. The fish farm is an artificial environment built by human beings, so they can control everything inside the farm. Moreover, global warming increases the temperature of the earth, but because of this farm, they can control the temperature of the farm and make it appropriate for the salmon. Also, they can separate the salmon from the external environment if there is a serious threat from the global warming. They also can increase the number of salmon in the farm if there is more demand for salmon because of the decline in other resources of food. Thus, fish farm is a good solution to reduce the threat of global warming.

Moreover, we can learn to overcome the diseases that are affecting wild and farm salmon. The scientists should make many experiences in the salmon to fight all the sickness that make the salmon exposed to extinction. In addition, the United States and Canada are two of the big countries that consume the salmon in the world, so they have to spend some of their budget to conserve this important resource. Government must involve and regulate the amount of fish inside the fish farm. This regulation will help to get rid of the stricken fish. The youngest salmon should be put in net pen aquacultures to protect them from the illnesses found in the adult salmon and be fed the necessary food. Therefore, people have to use the fish farm wisely to protect their salmon from disease.

Finally, keeping the salmon away from all the perils is the third reason we should use the fish firm. Scientists and companies who take care of this invention should find new solution to raise a small fish farm in every home. Cheap and accessible fish farms will eliminate the illegal fishing. Fish Farm aids to catch other fish that depend on salmon to get their food, especially seals. Also, people should save the salmon from some animals such as bears and wolves. Choosing the suitable environment helps the salmon to make proliferation in large amount without any disturbance. Thus, fish farm protects the salmon from their enemy.

Global warming, illness, and foes are three reasons that make the fish farm the best place to protect salmon from extinction. We should take the extinction of salmon seriously because many poor people will depend for their food on salmon. Also, the whole world must spend more money to find more inventions to encounter the global warming, pollution, and random fishing to keep fish from extinction. It is difficult to clean up the rivers and oceans, so government should support this kind of inventions. We ought to treat the issue seriously; otherwise, we might lose the delicious taste of salmon.

Celebration in Saudi Arabia

I am jealous from the American people because they have eleven federal holidays and many other unofficial celebrations. Some of these celebrations it does not make sense for me especially Halloween. Some people believe that dead people can return back in the body of animals in this specific day October 31. Although I have desire to see my dead father for five minutes, it is impossible. I respect what the American people believe and why they do this celebration. I really like strange costume cloths and eating delicious candies. For example, the taste of candy corn remembers me with traditional candy in my country. In the U.S., people respect their dead people by this celebration. In my country, we have two official religious celebrations. “Eid Alfitr” is the first celebration for all Muslims. It become after Ramadan, which is month that all Muslims are fasting. We celebrate for three days in this Eid and it is called “small Eid”. People visit their family and friends, so they have a lot of fun and play with the firework. Also, they serve a lot of food and candies from the morning until mid-night. The second celebrate is the biggest celebration for all Muslims that called “Eid Aladha”. We celebrate for four days that become when proximately million of Muslims visit a religious place in my country called “Makkah”. Men, women, and children dress nice cloths and go to mosque to do Eid prayer. Then, people sacrifice an animal such as sheep, goats, cows, and camels. People divide meat to three parts. They give poor people, relatives, and part for their home. In the night, we make a big grill party and celebrate with family and friends. In our city, we have unofficial celebration that we called “Gargian”. This celebration usually occurs before two days of Eid Alfitr. It is just for the children. They wear tradition cloths and have saying nice anthem. They hang out in the neighbors looking for candies and gifts. I hope you enjoy have a brief information about celebration in our country.

Protecting Salmon

Lundy (2008) in his article “New life in old river; Clyde’s amazing transformation from dead fish zone to cleaned-up waterway teeming with salmon” states that many kinds of sea animals, especially salmon, returned to the Clyde River after it became free of pollution. The author says that the Clyde River had very dirty waterways, and you saw the dead fish with your eyes thirty years ago. Moreover, industry garbage and shipbuilding were two main reasons for Clyde pollution. In addition, he points out that the river became clean after the decrease in shipbuilding and development of the sewage system. Also, the author mentions that one of the amazing things was the returning of many salmon to the Clyde River after years of absence. The author asserts that Clyde’s river has not become fully cleaned up and there are some water pollution areas in the river because of litter and sewage work as an example. Finally, he points out that the ways that Sepa uses to protect the Clyde River from pollution.

It is clear that pollution is one of many harmful things to sea animals’ lives particularly salmon. People have to work hard to solve this problem; otherwise, the salmon and other fish will disappear. The author’s ideas that the Clyde River is cleaned up and the salmon is in the river because of that is invalid. He should not to say that because maybe there is some impact of pollution. Some people may start seeking to fish for the salmon and get diseases. People should try to save salmon from extinction by following these three ways: organize fishing, provide proper environment, and avoid trading in big quantities.

First, organizing fishing is one of the ways to save salmon from extinction. Many countries have problems with random fishing. Moreover, they cannot control people and regulate some conditions for reasons such as the fact that they do not have a sector that should be responsible for sea life. For example, in the United States and Saudi Arabia you cannot go fishing without having a license for that; otherwise, you will be punished. There are some ways that help to organize the fishing like banning some areas that have some eggs of salmon and protecting the areas that are threatened by extinction. Some fishermen use equipment for fishing that hurts the sea world. Banning some areas when they are threatened with extinction are two examples for organizing fishing.

The second way to save salmon from extinction is to provide a proper environment. Fishermen and specialists in fish world choose the right world will help to make proliferation for salmon. For example, many countries have serious plan to prevent anyone from fishing to protect the salmon and wildlife. There are wonderful salutation for protect the salmon is salmon farms, which have big places that are equipped with new equipment and a big number of salmon in the same place. This farming salmon assists to increase the number of salmon quickly. Many countries are supporting this idea these days. In addition, government must become strict and have certain plan about cleaning up rivers and oceans. Educating people and changing some of their bad habits and charging factories for their pollution are some solution to get healthy environment. Farming salmon is one example that helps to provide a proper environment.

Lastly, traders have to eliminate selling salmon in big quantities in order to save salmons from extinction. Many traders are against this decision because they earn millions of dollars. Governments have to regulate selling salmon in big amounts. There are two ways to solve this problem. Governments have to make bounds limit for each industries in years. Also, governments must increase taxes for selling the extinct fish. Moreover, many people in the world like to eat salmon which makes the demand high. In addition, governments have to make laws that prevent the random selling of salmon in the entire world. In addition, governments must enforce fishermen for legal selling. Also, they should make penalties for illegal selling. Prohibiting illegal selling is an example of way that would help to save salmon from extinction.

In conclusion, organizing fishing, providing proper environment, and eliminating trading in a big quantity are three ways that would save salmon from extinction. People should think about the environment more than thinking about getting a lot of money. Many poor countries depend on fishing, so the impact on the sea environment will affect their economy. People often complain from the random fishing. Also, some industries have big ships with equipment that has high technology in the sea to search for the fishes in large quantities, so that will help to make fish extinction.

Learning English

Since I came to the United States ten months ago, I searched and got advice from my expert family and friends, especially my mother. My mother studied English in the United States thirty years ago. There are many pieces of advice for the beginner learners. I divided it in two parts, the place for study and some advice to improve your skills in English.

First, it is an advantage to choose a nice place that will help you to study. People should choose a good institute that will improve their skills. In addition, they should look for places that give them the ability to learn. For example, a big institute provides a lot of technology that you cannot find in small institute in some country. Also, they should look for the institute that provides more advantages with activities that make the students know more about American culture and be comfortable with the society. For example, in a big city you can find homestay, which will help the learner to feel better about the American life and to improve the confidence to speak. Moreover, they provide culture partner that helps you to deal with the new life easily, but it is difficult in small cities. Thus, homestay and culture partner are two examples of the advantage for choosing a nice place.

Second, general advice helps the beginner learners to improve their skills. Reading every day influences the way that will help you to improve your grammar, writing and reading. Eliminating speaking in your original language and trying to speak English all the time also helps. Using internet is one of the ways that makes difference to your level in English by visiting some good websites to improve you listening. Visiting some educational websites is helping the beginner learners to improve their skills.

Marriage ways

Finding soul mate can get many forms in our country. I divide the common ways in my country into two parts depend in the time. In the past, arrange marriage is the common way in my country. The religion determines the relationships that have to lead to married. You cannot see any forbidden relationship. Also, when you find your soul mate, you will become the first real lover in her life. Traditional man gave all his felling to his wife. Because of tradition and culture, men looked for women from their environment. The choices were relatives, friends, and neighbors. Men chose women for marriage that depend in four ways beauty, ethics, education, and social level. The common way was man asked her mother, sister, or both to look for a bride. They searched looking for a proper woman. The search sometimes took weeks and sometimes months until they found what they are looking for. They ask the woman (bride) if she interests to married from their son. If she says yes, then they make official request from their family. The man called her father to make date with him in their house. Then, men make official request from her parents. Women (bride) had the right for accept or refuse the men. If she accepts, then they make a small party and determine their condition such as the money should the men give to the women to prepare for their wedding. Observation many people who these way did had stability in their life and the divorce were rare. Now, the life is different, because of technology, education, and people thinking. They way of meeting the soul mate is changing. Internet is one of the new ways that many people tend to use when they are looking for wife. Also, men and women can meet in their jobs that make some admire and mirage in the end. Unfortunately, because of using the new way, many of divorce become now in our country. Thus, I hope you get a clear picture about the common ways of meeting in my country in the past and now.

Fluency Exercise # 2

Gracious State
California is a beautiful state in the United States. This is my opinion about this state. I visited this state on the first day that I came to the United States. It is a huge state and you can find many foreign people who live there. The majority of the population of this state speaks Spanish. There are more than twelve beaches; all of them are fancy. Most of the people in this state are friendly and like visitors. Shopping is one of the amazing things in this state. Many famous names of fashion headquarters are in this state. Also, if you look for cheap clothes, they are available in this state. For example, outlet stores have a lot of products in proper prices. The style of building is special. You can see many castles and glasses houses. Many famous actors like to live there and you can see them in public places. Many beautiful forests are in different places in the state. I recommended anyone to visit San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. There are many majestic restaurants and they serve different kinds of food from all over the world. You can find a lot of coffee shops that you cannot find in other states. If you have a passion for nightclubs, you will find exactly what you want. Many of the best universities are in the United States that you can get strong education from. Also, there are a lot of institutes of English which have nice places, good teachers, homestays, and partner cultures. I hope you like California because sometimes the words are not enough to describe the beauty.

Bride of Illinois

I had planned before I came to the United States to visit most the states in my vacations and weekends. This break was different because 3 of my friends came from Saudi Arabia and they will study in different states. We decided to meet in central states, so we chose Chicago, IL. I was so excited to see my friends and asked them about their impressions in the first months in the United States. I visited Chicago three times, so I was familiar with it. Because of my experience, I suggest to stay at the downtown. We chose indigo hotel, a cute hotel in north Dearborn parkway. I like it too much. Moreover, we make a busy schedule trying to discover all the famous places in Chicago. It was exhausted. My friends asked me about the museums because they know that I have a passion to visit the museums. We decided to visit the famous museums such as museum of science and industry and the field museum. There were amazing museums. Next, we went to Sears Tower, the highest building in Chicago. It is really an enormous building. Also, we visited the Hancock Observatory that we get many pictures from the top of the building. One of my friends is a fisher, so he insisted to visit the Sheed Aquarium. In addition, we brought a lot of Arabic food that we could not find it in our cities. We had a final dinner at The Cheesecake Factory before everyone went to his cities, it was a unique dinner. Finally, this was a brief to my last break, is it funny!

Climate Change

In Hirsch’s (2005) article, “Animals ‘hit by global warming’,” he points out that because of the change in climate these days, many animals, especially migratory birds, face extinction. He states some of the results of the climate change such as dissolving ice, impacting of warm seas, and circulating deserts. The author mentions that the changing of some animals’ direction of their migration is one of the apparent responses to climate change that make the scientists notice it immediately. Also, he states that some animals can adjust to new environments, but others cannot adapt at all. The author explains why the climate change is an enormous threat to the animals with some examples. The author says that the global warming is changing quickly now, which causes many problems for animals and for the ecosystem. Finally, the author comments that the report sends an important message to explain the problem of this disaster and ask for global solutions to solve it.


I totally agree with Hirsch’s points that climate change will destroy the life of the animal on this planet. The author mentions that scientists have noticed which changes happen because of the climate change, but he did not mention what the causes are. The author did not discuss how we should participate to make it. The human being is the number one responsible for what is happening to the animal and earth.there are three helpful ways to reduce the effect of climate change: use alternative energy, take care of forests, and educate people.


First of all, one of the ways that reduces the effect of climate change is using new energy. People use different kinds of energy such as coal, diesel, and gas. Because of technology and industry, people consume a lot of energy that helps to make pollution. Old energy produces quantities of carbon dioxide. More carbon dioxide in the air helps to warm temperature which causes problems in the climate. For example, in China, people have many problems in their health because of pollution. There are a lot of alternative energies which are clean and pure such as solar energy, wind energy, and water energy. Solar energy and wind energy are two examples of alternative energies that help with global warming.


Next, protecting natural resources is the second way would that help to reduce the effect of climate change. Government should have plans to protect the forest. For example, some countries made a lot of national forests in their countries that would help to reduce the climate change. Cutting the trees is a big problem that faces countries which use wood in their building. Sometimes, natural disasters like volcano, earthquake, and tornado destroy the forests. Trees take the carbon dioxide from the air to do photosynthesis. In the United States, many fires in the forest in California each year cause a lot of pollution. More trees help to protect the earth from climate change.


Finally, educating people and government is the third way to prevent global warming. Now, people are concerned about the economic problems and stock market. It is not fair. They should make the global warming the first priority. The media must have useful programs to warn us of this huge disaster. In the United States, government raises the taxes for any products that hurt the environment. Governments should spend a lot of money to reduce this problem. Governments and companies must have a serious plan to rescue the planet from this disaster. Even though the solutions may result in different losses such as economic crash, our planet deserves this sacrifice. Making the global warming the first priority by educating people will prevent the earth from climate change.


In conclusion, using new energies, protecting natural resources, and using helpful programs are three methods that help to protect our planet from the threat of climate change.Leading country such as the United States and China must start stop affecting our planet by producing a lot of pollution from their factories and finding another solution for this serious problem. Also, they should force the other countries to use the clean energies. We lost a lot of animals and birds because human beings just care about themselves. We hope that the entire world takes this threat seriously and has a huge war against global warming such as the war against the terrorism. There are many solutions that just need concern from the whole world and support from the leading country.

Carbondale Vs. Riyadh

What is the difference between Carbondale and Riyadh? It was the first question that most of my family and friends asked me about. In fact, there are many differences between these two cities. First, the type of transportation is different. In Carbondale, many people use bicycle, bus, car, and foot, but in Riyadh most people use cars. Second, the style of building is different in the two cites. In Riyadh, we have many new towers and huge buildings. On the other hand, Carbondale is a simple city and there are not any towers. Also, the population is one of the biggest differences between the two cities. In Riyadh, there are more than five million people who live in the city, but Carbondale has almost 30,000 people. Next, the weather in Carbondale is one of the amazing things in this city except the winter. In Riyadh the weather is too hot and sunny in the summer and too cold and dry in the winter. Four, in Carbondale, we do not have a lot of choices when we go shopping. On the other hand, we call Riyadh “the city of shopping” because we have more than 3000 malls. Five, in Carbondale most the stores close at 9 p.m., but in Riyadh the normal time is 12 p.m. Moreover, in Riyadh, there are many new bridges and huge roads, but in Carbondale are small roads. Finally, even though there are many differences between Riyadh and Carbondale, I like both of them.

Mazen vs. Movie

When I was child. I like all cartoons made by Walt Disney. I enjoyed watching with my brothers and sisters. My favorite carton was Alaa Aldeen .It was an amazing cartoon because I want to be Alaa and found the gold. Also, there are many cartons that I like to watch such as Tom & jerry and Pink Panther. In my country, there are not any movie making. Even though our government does not support movie making, there are many single attempt to make movie. Most people in my country prefer the Egyptians and Indian movies because it is near to our culture. I ride to another country called Bahrain to watch the newest movie to see but I enjoyed how they make the movies. I usually watch action and romantic and all the other kind of movies. My favorite movie is Troy. I watched this movie fourteen times and I did not feel bored. In this movie, I like many character especially Achilles and the beautiful Helen.

My favorite drinks

In fact, I am addicted. It is truth because I spend an average of $7 in Starbucks every day. I cannot imagine a day without drinking a cup of coffee from Starbucks. They should give my award for that. It is disappointing. When I wake up just think about a cup of coffee. Although coffee is affecting our brain, health, and mood, I will still the number one fan of coffee.

My favorite coffee is Frappachino. Also, I like to taste other flavor such as Carmel michchitos, White chocolate mocha, Espresso, and Café late. I often dream about many things but my favorite dream was becoming the owner of Starbucks.

In my country, we have a different kind of coffee. It is called “Arabic Coffee”. This coffee often put in special teapot that called “Dallah”. At home, people always serve Arabic coffee and tea to their guests, it is tradition. Arabic coffee has different flavor depend on their taste. Also, we use the Chinese products of tea (Red and Green), but I prefer the green tea. I usually drink it after dinner. It is delicious. I learned how to make coffee from my grandmother who is addicted to Arabic coffee. In my opinion, my grandmother has one of the highest Caffeine rate in her blood in the world, so she should be recorded in Guinness World Records.

My super Dish

To tell the truth, I like all kind of food. My number one food is “Kabsa”. This is the traditional food in my country. It contains of rice, meat, and spicy. The meat can be as a chicken, a fish, a beef, and a lamb. Kabsa has different ways to be cooked. For example, in India, they put a lot of spicy in the rice, but in my country we do not. Actually, Kabsa with lamb is my super dish. I like to eat it three times a week, but some people eat it twice in a day. Kabsa is the main food that you will see in every occasion in my country. I missed this food here in the United States because this type of food cannot be seen in any restaurant.

Classic Music

I liked misic when i was child. I had many posters for many of my favourite singers. My favourite music was arabic music. Music usually help my to be seccessful and enjoyable my life. When I came to the United States the first type of music that I was listen to is country music. I feel like I am riding a horse,wearing a Texas hat, and living in a farm. Then, I am listening to different type of music such as POP, Rap, Classic, and Rock. I havechoosen the Classic music . This type of music is helpful to relax and make my apartment peaceful. Also, classic music is help me to get sleep. In addition, it is helpful to consaderation while I am studying and get high score. This my feeling when I listen to nice classic music.

My initial reaction

Actually, I did not believe that my dream to study in the United States when I was child will happen. I faced a lot of objection from the family especially my mother. The reason for my mother objection was because my father died in the United States 26 years ago. She did not want me to face the same destiny. I tried a lot to explain to her my view point, but she did not want to hear for me any things. I decided to cancel this trip because I did not want my mother became sad because of me. Before I cancelled the trip my mother came to me and told me she approved it. I was very exciting because my mother was not sad. Then, I was nervous because I did not have time to find admission. Next, I searched looking for a proper university that was in a nice state with a nice weather. Finally, I was afraid from the immigration in the airport and how the American citizens think about the Middle East.
